Amazon reminded developers of the 25 April deadline to get apps approved ahead of the e-commerce company’s virtual currency launch next month, noting that “tens of millions of dollars of Amazon Coins will be given to customers for free to spend on Kindle Fire apps, games and in-app items”.

Announced earlier this year, Amazon described Amazon Coins as “another opportunity to drive traffic, downloads and increase monetisation”. It is using the same 70 per cent revenue share split as when customers purchase using credit cards.

At launch, the virtual currency will only be supported by Amazon in the US. International rollout plans have not been detailed.
