The availability of Amazon’s app promotion programme, Appstore Developer Select (ADS), has been expanded to include developers from the UK, France, Spain and Germany.

ADS was launched in the US in October last year, and is aimed at increasing developer revenue by improving visibility of apps and increasing incentives for consumers to part with their cash.

Titles selected to be part of the programme have prominent placement in the Amazon Appstore and receive 500,000 ad impressions on the Amazon Mobile Ad Network.

In order to improve conversion, customers who download ADS apps receive up to 30 per cent of the app purchase price back in the Amazon Coins virtual currency. Customers will also be rewarded with 75 Coins with the first Select app they download.

Qualifying apps appear in a dedicated session of the Amazon Appstore and could be featured in the dedicated section for the company’s Kindle Fire line of tablets and Android devices.

In addition, qualifying developers will be able to have a 25 per cent discount on the use of Amazon Web Services (up to the value of $500 per year) to help scale their products.

Existing participants can now make use of the extended programme if they launch apps in the newly-added markets.

Amazon also announced that developers can qualify to receive 500,000 Amazon Coins, which they can give away to users, if they optimise their titles for Amazon’s recently-unveiled Fire smartphone.

Amazon said the ADS programme had a significant impact on downloads and sales of qualifying apps in the run-up to Christmas last year. Data from December showed visits to details pages for ADS apps grew twice as quickly as the Appstore average while sales of qualifying apps grew three times more quickly.
