Amazon announced that its Appstore will soon be available in nearly 200 countries and invited developers to submit apps for the new markets.

The app storefront for Android-based devices, including Amazon’s own Kindle Fire tablet, will be rolled out to the new markets in the coming months, with Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, India, South Africa and South Korea among those being added.

The apps of registered developers will automatically be made available for download in the new markets, unless specified otherwise.

Amazon’s Appstore was initially launched in the US before coming to the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Japan.

“Allowing developers to target distribution of their apps and games in even more international countries is yet another important milestone as we strive to serve consumers and developers globally,” said Amazon VP of Apps and Games Mike George.

Developers can submit new apps for international distribution by visiting the Amazon Mobile App Distribution Portal.

Amazon noted that developers are seeing strong monetisation and user engagement from the Kindle Fire and Appstore. This is being driven by the company’s large customer base, e-commerce features such as 1-Click Purchasing, APIs for in-app purchasing and A/B testing of apps, and its GameCircle service.

A study of 500 games using in-app purchasing on Amazon found that GameCircle-enabled games earned 83 per cent more average revenue per user, than those not using the service.
