Amazon has boosted the services it offers iOS and Android developers with the release of an analytics tool and A/B testing facility.

The Analytics Dashboard provides developers with metrics on daily and monthly active devices, total sessions, retention rates, average revenue per device and average revenue per paying device for in-app items.

Amazon’s Peter Heinrich wrote in a post on the Amazon developer blog that the analytics functionality will help developers “quickly assess customer engagement” to make “tactical adjustments”.

A/B testing allows developers to try out different features or versions of apps on different subsets of users without the need to write client-side code or redeploy the app. They can measure and identify which approaches are most effective in terms of usage and monetisation.

A/B Testing has been available for Fire OS, the forked version of Android used on Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablets, since last year.

Both tools are free to use, regardless of usage level, and are bundled within the same SDK.

“Whether you use them together or separately, it’s all about reducing time to market, increasing stickiness, and understanding what’s working and what isn’t,” said Heinrich.

The company’s efforts to boost its appeal to iOS and Android developers have seen it launch an app promotion programme and introduce the GameCircle social platform and Whispersync backup technology for iOS.
