Alcatel-Lucent announced a suite of APIs it said will make it “much easier for application developers to unlock the innovation potential in 4G LTE mobile networks”.

The company said that nine “New Conversation APIs” will enable access to the communication capabilities present in operators’ IMS infrastructure.

This includes high-definition voice and video, audio/video conferencing, interactive voice, messaging and call control, which can be used to build services for both consumers and enterprises.

Alcatel-Lucent said it is “leveraging its ngConnect programme”, which brings together service providers and app developers as well as providing access to the APIs, alongside a fast prototyping environment through the New Conversation API developer portal.

The APIs are based on REST, which the vendor described as a “popular, easy-to-use software architecture used to create applications for the web”.

The New Conversations APIs are said to support Alcatel-Lucent’s app enablement strategy, which “brings value to communications service providers and enterprises by enabling them to transform their networks into platforms for innovation”.
