Accompany, maker of an “intelligent virtual chief of staff app”, raised $20 million, stating that “as we scale and expand, so too must the team”.

The app, which launched in beta in August, will use the investment for the continued development of its data platform and to expand its teams in California and Oregon.

Available on iOS, web, and as a Gmail extension, Accompany is intended to benefit professionals by “curating and intelligently managing their network and relationships”.

“You know that person that whispers in a president’s ear right before the handshake? That’s us, for you,” it explained on its website.

The app integrates with email, contacts, calendars and social and professional feeds, and scours publicly available sources to provide detailed briefings on meeting participants, real-time news alerts about contacts and companies, and comprehensive company profiles.

The website admits that it will ask users “for some pretty sensitive data” but claims the firm works hard to keep the data safe.

Accompany’s founding team includes CEO Amy Chang, who led Google Analytics to achieve coverage on 70 per cent of the entire web.

The latest round bringing its total funding to $40.6 million. It was led by Ignition Partners with participation from CRV.
