US e-government software company Accela announced its planned launch of a software development kit to “significantly expand the volume of Accela-based mobile apps.”

The company is planning to offer a collection of APIs and tools for third-party developers, which will enable the creation of Android, iOS and Windows Phone 7 apps which interact with its Accela Automation platform. It will also provide sample data and access to a test agency, sample apps and documentation.

It said that the tools will enable the creation of apps either for employees of government agencies or for the public, developed by agencies or third-parties. The SDK will be made available free to developers, but will require prior registration with its developer programme.

Accela is looking to mobile apps as part of its strategy to create a “cost-effective software ecosystem, enabling local, state and federal agencies to utilise cutting-edge mobile technologies that will both empower their workers and enhance citizen engagement.”
