Google announced a new feature that allows users to search for information stored within apps on Android smartphones.

The new search mode, called ‘In Apps,’ can be found inside Android’s Google app, and allows users to find and search for content, which could include anything from contacts, photos and videos across apps such as Gmail, Spotify and YouTube.

Google said in a blog post it would add support for other apps in the future, including Facebook Messenger, LinkedIn, Evernote and Glide, allowing users to search for information using keywords.

It said the functionality can be used even when the device is not connected to WiFi or mobile data, and the user maintains control of which apps appear on the tab.

LG’s V20 smartphone will be the first phone to have a dedicated shortcut to the In Apps search on its home screen, but all Android phones will be able to use the feature once they have an updated version of the Google app.
