Dow Jones Newswires reports that HTC’s unaudited profit for the second quarter was TWD17.52 billion (US$608 million), more than doubled from TWD8.64 billion year-on-year, on revenue which more than doubled to TWD124.4 billion from TWD60.96 billion.

App developer Bithack published an open letter criticising Amazon’s Appstore, warning that “if you are a small indie development team, or possibly even alone, don’t bother with Amazon Appstore.”

HTC said its sales for the second quarter of 2011 was TWD124.4 billion (US$4.34), more than double the TWD60.96 billion reported in the second quarter of 2010.

Subatomic Studios announced planned availability of its Fieldrunners HD app for Android, which is being made available initially via Amazon’s Appstore.

HTC opened a new European and UK headquarters in the town of Slough, stating that its operations in the continent have “grown steadily over recent years to encompass more than 50 territories.”

GetJar is to be the launch partner for ZeptoLab’s Cut the Rope for Android, having exclusive rights to the title for its first week of availability.

Apple is apparently close to losing out in one of its App Store trademark disputes, with indications that a US judge is set to find in favour of rival Amazon.
