LIVE FROM CES 2013 China’s ZTE is the latest vendor to unveil a top-of-the-range smartphone in Las Vegas this week, taking the wraps off the Grand S LTE, a new flagship device in its Grand Series.

The LTE-equipped smartphone runs the new Android software (Jelly Bean) and sports a 5-inch screen, 13-megapixel camera and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 1.7GHz quad-core CPU. Despite its heavyweight components, the device comes in at a slim 6.9mm.

“The ZTE Grand S is the company’s first FHD smartphone and the world’s thinnest within 5-inch FHD quad-core smartphones,” the firm said in a statement.

Several ZTE executives and a representative from Qualcomm unveiled the new smartphone at a press event at CES this afternoon.

ZTE’s CTO of Mobile Devices Kan Yulan cited a recent study from IDC, which ranked the vendor as the fourth largest smartphone maker in the world.

He added that the partnership with Qualcomm was evidence of the firm’s so-called ACW (America-China-Worldwide) strategy – combining US components with Chinese engineering in order to launch global devices.
