Verizon Wireless finally announced it will support the recently launched Samsung Pay, albeit via a software update at an unspecified future date.

The largest operator in the US said in August it was evaluating the vendor’s payment service and would update users when it had more news.

Six weeks later, Verizon has followed up with a tweet which says: “Samsung Pay will be supported on compatible Verizon smartphones (Galaxy S6, S6 edge, Note5, S6 edge +) through a future software update.”

Samsung launched its payment service in the US on 28 September with the support of Verizon Wireless’ three largest rivals: AT&T, T-Mobile US and Sprint.

Verizon (along with AT&T and T-Mobile US) were backers of the now-defunct Isis (later Softcard), which was absorbed by Google.  As part of the same deal, the three operators agreed to support Google’s Android Pay, a rival to Samsung Pay.
