Norway’s Telenor will next week announce plans for a commercial launch of NFC with the country’s largest bank, according to NFC Times.

The operator plans to launch NFC-based mobile payments in summer 2013 with DNB. The announcement is scheduled for next week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The two companies have previously staged trials with users of NFC-based equipment and services. The feedback was positive although the companies said for a successful launch, as many merchants as possible have to be signed up, and more NFC-enabled handsets made available to consumers.

Telenor and DNB used a MasterCard PayPass application in its trial but will switch to Visa payWave for this summer’s commercial launch, the report said.  The partners will not provide their own Trust Service Manager (TSM) for the launch but instead use Gemalto. Taiwan’s Toro Development will provide the mobile wallet.
