Telenor-backed Easypaisa is looking to take advantage of the influx of funds from overseas workers to friends and family living in Pakistan.

A new service called Easypaisa Mobile Remittance enables domestic recipients to receive funds directly into a mobile-based account.

Domestic remittance payments are a core business for Easypaisa but not inbound foreign payments.

Once overseas funds are present in their accounts, Easypaisa users can transfer the money domestically; pay utility bills; purchase airtime; or withdraw the funds at either an Easypaisa shop or from an ATM machine.

The company aims to further tempt users to sign up by offering up to five free withdrawals from any Easypaisa shop in a month. Also, users of the new service get a free ATM card and are not charged for withdrawals from ATM machines across the country.

However, the service is only available for funds sent from two international money transfer firms – Xpress Money and Placid Express only.

Easypaisa is a joint venture between Telenor and Tameer Micro Finance Bank.
