MTN Swaziland deployed Ericsson’s converged wallet platform in a rollout impacting more than 275,000 existing mobile money users and 3,000 agents.

The new platform serves as a hub for mobile money services, connecting the operator’s operations in several countries and enabling the fast launch of new services and providing cross-promotion opportunities, the partners claimed.

The deployment, which is part of a wider agreement between operator and vendor, involves the replacment of MTN Swaziland’s existing wallet platform. The name of the previous vendor was not disclosed.

Ericsson is supplying its mobile wallet across MTN’s African and Middle Eastern footprint. Among the other countries where it has been deployed is Uganda, where an existing vendor was also displaced.
