A number of companies are looking to develop apps for Google Glass, hoping the smart glasses will enable consumers to make faster payments in shops and restaurants.

For instance, US vendor Intuit has tweaked its Gopayment app so that a Google Glass user can scan a QR code presented by a merchant’s system (so long as it is Intuit’s own system), using their glasses.

Payment is also confirmed by the user via their smart glasses.

Separately, MasterCard is enabling its MasterPass digital wallet to work with Google Glass. Users could study a menu on a restaurant’s website using the glasses and then pay for their food, before heading off to the restaurant to collect it, according to one example.

The credit card giant has been demonstrating Google Glass payment apps at the Gitex Technology Show this week, alongside mobile operator Etisalat.
