Japan’s Docomo and KT of South Korea are to enable subscribers with NFC handsets to access discounts when shopping abroad.

Members of KT’s Olleh Club scheme and subscribers to its Moca mobile money service can download coupons with their NFC smartphones in a number of Japanese stores from January 2013.

Meanwhile, Docomo customers will get similar benefits as provided to KT’s own subscribers via several South Korean retailers and service providers.

Coupons are one of several NFC-based services the two operators plan for their roaming subscribers, alongside mobile payments and ticketing for public transport.

The two companies first announced their partnership to jointly work on international NFC-based services back in February 2011.
