T-Mobile Germany reportedly plans to upgrade its network to LTE technology. According to a Telecompaper report, which cites an article from teltarif.de, the operator expects to upgrade its EDGE/HSPA networks to LTE and will start trialing LTE within the next 18 months. The move follows previous reports the operator is keeping its options open on its technology choice for the next-generation of mobile communications.

LTE has already received support from tier-one operators such as Vodafone, AT&T, NTT DoCoMo and China Mobile, among others. An evolution of GSM-based standards, LTE has also won favour with CDMA players such as Alltel and Verizon.
