Periscope announced a number of updates to its live streaming app, including support for landscape broadcasting after only offering a portrait option until now.

The move may not seem especially significant on the surface but, according to a TechCrunch report, Twitter’s Periscope will be one of the first companies to create an app specifically for Apple TV, which will let users watch live streams on their TV broadcast from the Periscope app.

While there has been no official confirmation of this, Periscope’s icon made an appearance at Apple’s press event in San Francisco yesterday when the company showed an image of Apple TV’s app store ‘top charts’ section, along with other well-known names like Airbnb and Vimeo.

Commenting on the landscape offering, Periscope noted in a blog that “we know that there are times where the scene you’re trying to capture is best expressed in landscape”, adding that it “wanted to be thoughtful about our approach to ensure a seamless experience across all of our platforms (iOS, Android and web)”.

Other updates to the app include better accessibility for the visually impaired, a mutual follow feature to make private broadcasting easier (only on Android for now) and ‘share context’ – an indicator beneath a shared broadcast explaining who sent it.

Last month Periscope said it passed 10 million accounts, with daily active users at two million, and is “seeing over 40 years of videos watched per day”.
