Struggling smartphone maker HTC will unveil its latest device on 20 October, which is set to become one of the first handsets to run on Google’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow software.

The product unveil, which was hinted at in a thinly worded statement shortly after Google launched its two new Nexus phones, will be held digitally, with the company opting to hold a virtual event streamed from its website.

The announcement invites press to “Meet the Marshmallow from HTC”, and rumours circulating suggest the device could be called the HTC One A9.

The latest device to join the HTC One portfolio will become one of the first devices to run on Google’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow software, along with Google’s new Nexus devices.

Google opted to partner with Chinese vendor Huawei for the first time to manufacture the higher end Nexus 6P, while the Nexus 5X will be from the handiwork of LG.

As well as announcing plans for its latest device, HTC said in a tweet many of its hero models from last year are also set to get the latest Android 6.0 update, with users of the M9 and M8 expected to be able to upgrade by the end of the year.
