LIVE FROM MOBILE ASIA EXPO 2014: China Mobile published two updated 4G white papers, as Li Yue, president and CEO, encouraged its peers to “work together and share experiences, and give us feedback on these two documents”.

The executive reiterated comments made earlier in the day by Xi Guohua, chairman of the operator, who gave the ambitious target of 50 million 4G subscribers by the end of 2014.

Li said that the company currently has 6.5 million LTE users, generating three times the standard ARPU.

At the 2014 GTI Asia Summit this afternoon, China Mobile published an updated Voice over TD-LTE whitepaper. The operator is trialling VoLTE services at the moment, noting that the technology “has gained great support” among the operator community.

Indeed, operators including AT&T, T-Mobile US, SingTel and HKT have launched VoLTE services in recent weeks, with NTT Docomo set to join the pack imminently.

It was at Mobile Asia Expo last year that China Mobile said that the availability of a mature voice solution was “critical” for the continued success of its 4G network.

And following the announcement at Mobile World Congress that it is supporting RCS, the operator also published the second version of its Next-Generation Converged Communication document.

Li said that the company is working toward a full launch of converged communications services next year, having previously stated it is looking to plot RCS later in 2014.
