ASUS unveiled a number of new products at the Computex 2015 event this week, including a new selfie-oriented smartphone and an updated smartwatch.

ZenFone Selfie
The company said that its ZenFone Selfie is a “unique smartphone designed to capture the best possible selfies, quickly and simply”. While a number of vendors have trumpeted the capabilities of their front-facing cameras, ASUS has significantly upped the megapixel count, with 13MP resolution for both front and rear.

The device includes “the brilliant ZenUI Beautification mode”, to “soften facial features, slim cheeks and enhance skin tone to add vibrancy, and all in real time”. It also has a Selfie Panorama mode, which enables selfies of up to 140 degrees.

It has a 5.5-inch full-HD (1920×1080 pixel) screen “that fits in a body that’s a similar size to that of most 5-inch smartphones”. It is powered by a 64-bit octacore Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor.

ZenWatch 2
ZenWatch 2Also unveiled was ZenWatch 2, a “stylish and personalised wearable device powered by Android Wear and produced in partnership with Google”.

It is available in two sizes and three stainless-steel case colours, with 18 different strap material and colour combinations – echoing Apple’s personalisation options for Apple Watch. Indeed, it also gains a “metal watch crown, enhancing the user experience by providing a new way to interact” with the device, similar to the Cupertino product.

ZenWatch 2 also includes an “all-new magnetic charger”, and has an IP67 water-resistance rating, meaning it is “designed to be worn all day everyday, even in the shower or during exercise”.

ZenPad tablets
ZenPad S 8.0ASUS also announced an update to its tablet line, which it said includes “the world’s first 8-inch tablet with 4GB of RAM”.

The line comprises four devices in three sizes: ZenPad 7.0, ZenPad 8.0, ZenPad S 8.0 and ZenPad 10.1. It includes Wi-Fi only and devices with integrated mobile connectivity and phone functionality.

The company said that ZenPad 8.0 is “the world’s first tablet to feature an innovative interchangeable cover design” which enables users to easily customise devices.

Also available are a range of accessories including Zen Clutch, which “combines elegant style with premium materials to provide a sophisticated carrying and protection solution”; Audio Cover, which “brings immersive 5.1-channel surround sound to a tablet for the first time”; and Power Case, which provides a battery life boost.

Its sibling, ZenPad S 8.0, is a high-spec device with 2K (1536×2048 pixel) display. Powered by a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 processor, it has 4GB of RAM and can be used with an optional “Z Stylus” input.
