Handset brand Yezz launched a new Android phone designed to support Virtual Reality (VR) “right out of the box”.

The Andy 5.5VR device will come equipped with a Google Cardboard V2 viewer, which Yezz says will better maximise the “Virtual Reality experience”, as well as inbuilt VR software on the phone.

The new smartphone features a Mediatek 1.3GHz quadcore chip, and will be 4G LTE compatible. It has a 5.5HD screen, a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front facing camera.

The company has also developed a similar device with slightly lower specs, dubbed Andy 5VR, which will run on the same chipset, but will be 3G, not 4G compatible, as well as featuring an 8 MP rear camera, and a front facing 2 MP camera.

Luis Sosa, co-founder of Yezz, said the launch of the devices, as part of the Yezz VR 360 product set, is intended “to share innovative technology, like virtual reality, with the masses”.

“By breaking down the price barrier of innovation, virtual reality will now become accessible,” he claimed.

The VR 360 bundles will be available online and in participating retail stores, with models ranging from $249 to less than $99.
