Telefonica and China Unicom claimed “another milestone in their strategic global procurement collaboration”, with Shanghai-based smartphone maker Phicomm set to deliver a device to Telefonica’s Latin American units.

A joint statement from the two companies said that through the alliance, announced last year, “China Unicom continues to introduce its Chinese smartphone partners to the international market through the global footprint of Telefonica”.

Phicomm will supply its C630 smartphone, which has apparently “already proven to be a commercial success in the Chinese market with China Unicom”, with availability through Telefonica in key Latin America markets from Q2.

The Qualcomm-powered device has a 5-inch screen and LTE connectivity. It is said to “represent an important contribution towards Telefonica’s strategic goal of accelerating the penetration of 4G devices and services in its footprint at more affordable end-consumer price points”.
