Soft drinks giant PepsiCo will launch a branded smartphone and accessories line, Reuters reported.

Apparently, the company is focusing the effort on the Chinese market, and is “similar to recent globally licensed Pepsi products which include apparel and accessories”.

The company has not named its possible manufacture partner.

PepsiCo is not the first company to have used its brand on smartphones, with Kodak and JCB among the other famous names currently being used on such devices.

However, PepsiCo does appear to be in the driving seat for the project, whereas in other cases the brand is licensed to a third-party for use on products.

According to Mobipicker, PepsiCo’s P1 will launch in Beijing next week. The mooted feature set does not deviate much from the norm: 5.5-inch full-HD screen, 1.7GHz MediaTek processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

The mooted price was CNY1,299 ($205).
