LG Electronics said it will launch its X Series “mass-tier” smartphones, which offer “premium features until now only available on LG’s flagship models”, from this week.

Announced in the run-up to Mobile World Congress, X screen and X cam will first be available in South Korea, followed by markets across Europe, Latin America and Asia.

X screen features the “second screen” feature first introduced with the South Korean vendor’s V10. The always-on display enables users to check information such as time, date and notifications without having to wake the phone, “the first mid-tier smartphone to offer this unique feature”.

X cam has a dual camera set-up similar to LG’s flagship G5 smartphone, with a 13MP standard lens married to a 5MP wide-angle camera to offer “as wide a field of view as the human eye”.

Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG’s mobile business, said: “What’s appealing about the X screen and X cam is that each offers one great feature in a complete package that doesn’t break the bank.”
