Boku president and co-founder steps down

Richard Handford

Ron Hirson, the high profile president and co-founder of Boku, is stepping down from a full-time position with the vendor after four years to become a venture capitalist.

Hirson has lined up roles with two venture firms, Khosla Ventures and the Mayfield Fund. In a statement, Boku said, “We are excited for Ron, but sad to see him go.”

He will however continue as a board member and adviser to the vendor, whose speciality is carrier billing. Boku has struck agreements with a number of mobile operators which enables subscribers to add digital purchases to their regular mobile bills.

The company also offers a white label mobile wallet to smaller mobile operators.
