Japan’s SoftBank has upped its stake in Supercell, the Finnish company behind popular gaming apps like Clash of Clans and Hay Day, from 50.5 per cent to 73.2 per cent.

“SoftBank positions its partnership with Supercell as core to its mobile content strategy and believes that strengthening its relationship with Supercell through the transaction will contribute to SoftBank’s growth over the long-term,” the Japanese company said in a statement.

“Supercell will continue to operate independently and Ilkka Paananen will continue to serve as CEO,” the statement added.

The company did not disclose the price of the deal, however.

SoftBank paid $1.5 billion for its majority stake in 2013. In 2014 Supercell’s revenue tripled to $1.6 billion.
