RIM announced a pricing revamp for its rebranded BlackBerry World store, ahead of the launch of its first BlackBerry 10-powered devices later this week.

In a blog post, it said that the goal of the change is “to ensure prices are in line with currency fluctuations and ensure BlackBerry World is competitive”.

The company has updated its Euro and British Pound pricing, and it said that it will be making changes for other currencies “shortly”.

The big difference in the examples given by RIM is the introduction of a lower pricing tier: the £1 minimum has dropped to £0.75, while in France the €0.99 minimum has dropped to €0.89.

RIM said that developers do not have to do anything due to the introduction of the new model, but noted that prices can be changed at any time.

App store analysis firm Distimo noted that the changes “put the prices more in line with the Apple App Store.” It was noted that “BlackBerry App World has always been a relatively expensive store”.

In December, 53 percent of iPhone apps in the US were priced at the lowest tier, compared with 37 percent of BlackBerry apps.

The average price of all available paid apps was 9 percent higher in the BlackBerry store that in Apple’s App Store for iPhone during the fourth quarter of 2012, Distimo said.
