BlackBerry has confirmed that it now has more than 100,000 apps available for its BlackBerry 10 platform. The company said its BlackBerry 10 app catalogue in BlackBerry World has grown by more than 30,000 apps in just seven weeks (since launch of the platform at the end of January).

BlackBerry 10 apps that can already be found in BlackBerry World include Angry Birds Star Wars, CBS Sports, Facebook, Foursquare, Twitter, Need for Speed and WhatsApp.

BlackBerry CMO Frank Boulben told Mobile World Live at Mobile World Congress in February that the company was on course to reach the milestone this month.

The company launched its make-or-break BlackBerry 10 OS in January with the unveiling of the touchscreen Z10 and qwerty-equipped Q10 smartphones. The Z10 has sold well in its initial markets and launches in the US this week.

“It now appears that the already impressive levels of developer support for the BlackBerry 10 platform are accelerating into the launch window for the BlackBerry Z10. The prospect of a very robust app catalog can only bolster momentum for the product and the platform itself,” said John Jackson, research VP for Mobile & Connected Platforms at IDC.
