The latest app to come out of Microsoft’s Garage initiative is News Pro, available on iOS and the web, which helps users search for news on a particular industry or field from around 10,000 publishers and bloggers.

“While we can easily locate top headlines that keep us in the know with trending events, it’s harder to search for insightful news under the hood about my company, its competitors, and their products that may not be interesting to the general public but significant to me and a handful of people,” explained Yumao Lu, a principal dev manager whose team works on Bing news products.

The app also provides personalisation options to help users search for news about some 100,000 companies of all sizes, such as Facebook, Huawei, Tencent, Kabam and Waze.

News Pro also suggests new topics to search for based on current interests.

Users can sign in from their Facebook account, and from there the app aims to provide personalised news highlights that are relevant to a user’s work and career.

There is no word yet on whether there will be a version for Windows and Android platforms for News Pro.

Microsoft Garage is an initiative that lets Microsoft’s employees turn their ideas into actual projects. Last July, Garage launched an app called Send that lets users write short messages to co-workers.
