Travel guide app maker Desti raised $1 million in seed funding, as it looks to expand the reach of its content.

The company makes a free smart travel guide app for the iPad. It uses natural language processing and a virtual personal assistant to deliver custom travel recommendations for travel, hotels, events, attractions and restaurants.

The technology is currently in public beta and the money will be used to grow content for California and Nevada, before expanding to the rest of the US west coast during the first quarter of 2013.

“The investment will enable us to quickly expand our content and coverage to surrounding states while still providing the best recommendations for local day and weekend trips,” said Desti CEO and co-founder Nadav Gur.

The investment comes from Carmel, SRI and Horizon Ventures, who previously invested in the company to the tune of $1.55 million in October 2011.
