Google changed the maximum price developers can sell apps and in-app purchases for on the Play store, as it also announced updates to its games and auto propositions.

In the US, apps can be listed for $400 compared with the previous $200 limit.

While most apps are not sold for such high prices, some software for professionals is more costly.

It is possible that Google is looking to bring more developers of such high-value products to Android, for example to support its efforts to bolster the platform in the enterprise space.

Apple’s maximum price for apps is around $1,000.

Gameplay videos
Noting that every month more than 144 billion minutes of gaming videos and live streams are watched on YouTube, Google launched a new feature on the Google Play Games app that lets users record and share gaming moments.

Gameplay can be captured in 720p or 480p, and users can add a video of themselves with commentary via their device’s front facing camera.

This can then be edited and uploaded on YouTube.

Gameplay recording will first rollout to US and UK users over the coming days and will be available in more countries soon after.

Android Auto
In other Google apps news, the search giant partnered with online university Udacity to offer a course called “Ubiquitous Computing with Android Auto”, which will teach developers how to extend their media and messaging apps to work in cars through the Android Auto app.

Since Android Auto is based on extensions to the regular Android framework, developers will not need to rewrite their core software.

“Users want to be able to take their experience to other places, such as their cars, and not just on their phones. Having Auto support will allow developers to differentiate their app, and give users another reason to try it,” Google said on the Android developer blog.

Android Auto links cars to Android 5.0+ phones. It brings apps, optimised for “glanceability and readability” while driving, from a smartphone to the car’s screen.
