Android app developers will now be able to generate and distribute promotional codes to current and new users on Google Play to drive engagement, Google said.

Developers can set up promo codes for apps, games, and in-app products to distribute in their marketing campaigns. However, codes can’t be used for subscriptions.

“Consider using promo codes to reward loyal users, encourage app reviews, and attract new customers,” wrote Yoshi Tamura, product manager at Google Play, in a blog post.

There is a limit of 500 promo codes per app every quarter.

The codes can be embedded into a URL so that users don’t have to enter it themselves.
