Google launched PhotoScan for iOS and Android which lets users scan photographs and includes automatic edge detection, perspective correction, and smart rotation.

Jingyu Cui, a software engineer at Google Photos, said the solution was aimed at people with old albums and boxes of photos who have not been able to digitise them because they don’t want to invest in a scanner or mail their copy to a third party.

Cui added that the app gives much better results than simply taking a photo of a photo as it gets rid of glare and improves the quality of the scan.

Scanned photos can be saved to Google Photos to be organised, searchable, shared, and backed up at high quality for free.

Google Photos is also being updated to include improved auto enhance, advanced editing tools and editing capabilities using machine intelligence.
