Facebook agreed to purchase Little Eye Labs, a Bangalore-based start-up that builds performance analysis and monitoring tools for Android app developers.

The acquisition, which was rumoured in December, was confirmed by Little Eye Labs on its blog. It is the first time Facebook has acquired a company based in India.

The deal will bolster Facebook’s proposition for app developers, following its acquisition of tools company Parse in April. Mark Zuckerberg, the company’s CEO, has also argued that Facebook can “create a lot of value for developers” as an identity and distribution platform.

“For us, this is an opportunity to make an impact on the more than 1 billion people who use Facebook,” Little Eye Labs said in a blog post. The entire Little Eye team will move to Facebook’s offices in Menlo Park, California.

The Indian start-up was founded in May last year, with its founders having worked variously for Apple, IBM, HP and Yahoo. The company has received investment from start-up incubator GSF Accelerator and VenturEast Tenet Fund.

The official version of Little Eye for Android is currently being tested and is due to be launched in April. It will enable developers to measure, analyse and optimise app performance.

Little Eye customers will be informed about the future plans with a free version of the technology to be offered until 30 June.
