Japan-based mobile social games company DeNA said it is looking to take its “Mobage West” international operation into a profit “during the summer”, while it will “aggressively launch many native app titles in Japan, utilising knowledge accumulated from Mobage West’s success”.

The company said it is looking to work with other developers in order to broaden its portfolio, including both apps and browser-based titles, across multiple genres.

For the quarter to 31 March 2013, the company said that consumption of its MobaCoin virtual currency was JPY58.3 billion (around $588 million) in Japan and “approaching” $70 million overseas.

While there was total growth quarter-on-quarter, there was a slowdown in Japan, which was attributed to the lack of new original hit titles, and other products not reaching target projections.

With regard to its domestic business, the company said it had overcome regulatory issues related to the “complete gacha” game mechanism, and improved its user environment.

However, it also noted issues including the launch of just five first-party titles in Japan during the year, targeting a similar genre.

The company’s Mobage service has 49.6 million users in Japan.

For the year to 31 March 2013, the company reported a profit of JPY45.6 billion, up 46 per cent from JPY31.1 billion, on revenue of JPY202.5 billion, up 38 per cent from JPY146.5 billion.

For the fourth quarter, it reported a profit of JPY12.1 billion, up 29 per cent from JPY9.4 billion, on revenue of JPY52.3 billion, up 22 per cent from JPY42.8 billion.
