App promotion company Chartboost has appointed a new chief product officer as it looks to develop the capability of its platform.

Chung-Man Tam brings experience of distributing mobile content and monetisation having held senior product leadership roles at Google, including responsibility for all advertiser products at AdMob.

He previously led the product development at game maker Booyah and most recently co-founded Qwilt Software, which produces an app that for organising photos.

Product development is clearly a priority for the company as it said it planned to use $19 million of investment secured at the beginning of the year for this purpose.

“I’m excited to help develop the next set of platform tools that empower developers to leverage data to make better decisions and build thriving businesses,” said Tam.

Maria Alegre, Chartboost CEO, said Tam’s product leadership experience and “passion for entrepreneurial ventures” mean he is an ideal person to lead the company’s product development.

Chartboost’s network enables developers to cross promote titles and negotiate directly with other developers to acquire new users.

Two years after the company launched its app promotion services Chartboost’s network now has more than 32,000 games, more than doubling over the past six months. In addition, monthly sessions have risen by 50 per cent to reach 12 billion.

Chartboost recently launched a beta version of its Store backend service to monitor in-game transactions and make real-time adjustments, along with Direct Deals Groups which allow developers to set up their own networks.
