App promotion player Chartboost launched video and in-game ad technology for developers looking to use these approaches to generate revenue.

Developers will be able to integrate video more easily into their games, while the InPlay capability allows creative teams to develop a seamless way to place display ads within gameplay.

The ad technology can be used for cross promotion or with Chartboost’s Direct Deals Marketplace, allowing developers to have control of the players’ experience. InPlay can also be used in conjunction with Chartboost’s Game Ad Network.

The video technology will be launched with ‘Rewarded Video’ functionality, which provides the option for players to earn virtual currency or in-game items by viewing video ads.

“With Video and InPlay, we’re taking the same approach we took with interstitials to empower game developers to grow their businesses through powerful and relevant experiences for players,” said Maria Alegre, CEO and co-founder of Chartboost.

Both services are available as a closed beta in the Chartboost SDK.

Chartboost appointed a new chief product officer in October last year in a concerted effort to develop the capability of its platform. The company also said that it planned to use $19 million of investment secured at the beginning of 2013 for this purpose.
