Apple and IBM launched the first apps developed through the enterprise partnership the two companies announced in July.

The MobileFirst for iOS titles have been specifically developed for enterprise use and support cloud services that make use of IBM’s big data and analytics capabilities.

There are products for a number of industry verticals, namely banking, retail, insurance, financial services, telecommunications, airlines and government.

Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior VP for worldwide marketing, said this represents “a big step for iPhone and iPad in the enterprise”.

Bridget van Kralingen, senior VP for IBM Global Business Services, said the products are “smart technologies that unlock new value at the intersection of big data and individual engagement”.

She added that the collaboration combines IBM’s industry expertise and “unmatched position in enterprise computing” with Apple’s “legendary user experience and excellent in product design”.

Among the customers using the apps already are Citi, Air Canada, Sprint and Mexican bank Banorte.
