Discovery service AppGratis is working on an HTML5 version of its service after Apple removed the iOS version from the App Store for breaking its rules.

Simon Dawlat, the company’s CEO, wrote in a blog post that its service will “very soon be complemented by the newest and nicest HTML5 WebApp you’ll ever see”.

By building a web-based app, the company will be able to bring its services to iOS users without having to go through the App Store.

AppGratis spotlights premium apps available for free or at a heavy discount and promotes “freemium gateways” such as free in-app purchases and level unlocks.

Apple removed the app as it contravened a clause saying that apps should not display other apps for purchase or promotion in a way that could be confused with the App Store.

AppGratis also broke the rule that forbids the use of push notifications to send ads, promotions and direct marketing.

Dawlat said he was “in absolute shock” following Apple’s decision to remove the AppGratis app as the company had recently approved a new version for the iPad.

AppGratis has around 12 million iOS users and last year announced a $13.5 million funding round.
