Apple is apparently developing a video sharing and editing app for iPhones and iPads, as it looks to more closely integrate such features with its devices.

According to Bloomberg, the technology giant is testing the app as part of a new focus on social apps, an area that has been dominated by companies such as Facebook and Snapchat.

It will allow users to record video, apply filters and drawing to video, and share with contacts or via social media channels.

The software is also designed to be used with one hand, and videos can be shot, cut and uploaded in less than one minute, with the goal of offering simple editing on the move.

According to sources, it is designed to run as a standalone app and be downloaded from the App Store, but may be packaged with the existing iOS camera app.

Equally, it may not see the light of day.

In line with its next software update, the company will also overhaul its messaging application, in a bid to compete better with services like Facebook’s Messenger.

The iMessage update will include new animated effects, as well as capabilities to send animated images, stickers and tools for drawing.

Services push
Bloomberg reported that with more time being spent on apps such as Facebook, Snapchat and Twitter, Apple is looking for ways to enhance its proposition to  remain relevant to its younger users.

Growth of the company’s hardware business is also slowing, and CEO Tim Cook is looking for ways to increase revenue. Cook has previously identified services as an opportunity, including iCloud, Apple Music, App Store and Apple Pay.
